TRACE OIL FLOW, TEST EVIDENCE AND FAULT ISOLATION
TM-042 | Caravan Engine Oil Cooling & Indication Diagnostics
Engine oil-system architecture
Scavenge flow, cooler air, EX bypass routing and indication
Required measurement bench
Compare vernatherm conditioning, travel and indicator resistance tables
Evidence before restoration
Separate control, indication and mechanical faults using installation-specific evidence
Understand how Caravan oil cooling, EX bypass routing, temperature and pressure indications, and chip detection work together. Includes a 25-page handbook, eight lessons, six prediction exercises, eight two-stage cases and a 40-question final. Distinguish PT6A-114/-114A and PT6A-140 installations before selecting the applicable task.
What's included?

8 focused lessons
-
Completion certificate
-
40-question final
-
8 guided fault cases
-
25-page handbook
Understand the connected system
Trace scavenged oil through the external cooler and return path. Explain cooler air-side performance, EX shutoff and check-valve functions, vernatherm behavior, and the separate evidence provided by quantity, pressure, temperature and chip indications.
Practice defensible fault isolation
Complete six prediction-and-Apply exercises, eight two-stage cases, a vernatherm and indication decision bench and twelve independent decisions. Complete all 24 lab requirements and pass the separate 40-question final at 80%. Based on supplied Cessna D2078 Chapter 79, with the May 2024 chapter edition identified; aircraft-effective tasks govern physical work.
